Give it a share!

This week we have the opportunity to hear from our lovely contract team member, Christine DeAngelis. She has quite the entrepreneurial experience and shares with us the value of a proven system:

Do you know that old saying? Don’t reinvent the wheel? Sure, we wouldn’t have Apple and Amazon and Uber without innovation, but there are some things in business that work every time. Following a proven system is one of them. But what the heck do I mean by a system, and how the heck does it apply to your accounting and consulting business?

I have been a serial entrepreneur since my mother first let me start selling brownies at our family yard sales. I started my first two companies and became fully self-employed before my 30th birthday. After years of serving clients across a multitude of industries, starting multiple business ventures, listening to podcasts, reading books, following millionaires, and studying success, I can tell you one common theme among the businesses that flourish: they follow a system.

Anyone who has ever worked for themselves or reached a level of leadership in their company where you have to participate in client development knows that this isn’t for the faint of heart. When you have to be your own marketing team, sell your own jobs, be your own risk mitigation specialist, your own IT guru, your own client relationship manager, and still actually do the work you are getting paid for, it becomes overwhelming at best. Don’t forget you still need to reconcile your own bank account, pay your own bills, manage your own budget, and clean out your own inbox. This is where small businesses can start to either thrive or struggle to survive. Without a system in place, your ability to scale will be limited and along with it, your income. So what does a program like Nucleus provide that you can’t do for yourself?

One of the most important lessons I have learned in business is to be keenly aware of the highest and best use of my time. Spending time trying to reinvent the wheel to create your system is not effective if you are looking to scale your success. Eric Worre said, “success loves speed.” His three keys to success are “think bigger, be stronger, move faster.” You may be an incredible outsourced CFO with the knowledge to provide to your clients that would far exceed what your competitors are capable of in terms of advice, or niche specialty, or experience. Still, if you are spending your time trying to figure out how to get your ideal clients to click on your Instagram sales funnel link, then you are wasting your talent. A system allows talented independent consultants to service their clients with their actual talents and skills while you, as the consultant, receive backend support. Take that same CFO scenario, and now imagine you have backend marketing support, and you have an accounting team behind you to do the transaction work. Imagine you have a tax team to plug into and an IT specialist. Imagine you can connect your clients into established and vetted technology to make your services and their businesses immediately more efficient. I can’t tell you how much time and money I have wasted just trial testing technology to solve varying inefficiencies for myself or the businesses I am trying to serve. It does not lead to speeding up your success.

A system is like plug and play for your business. Remember before we had iCloud, and if you needed to get a new cell phone, your carrier had to spend something like three hours downloading and uploading all your data and settings from the old phone to the new phone? Instead of trying to download and upload everything you need, Nucleus is like logging into your iCloud account from anywhere and already having everything ready at your fingertips. You are fully charged for success, let’s go!
